What is the DUTCH Test?

The DUTCH Complete™ test elevates hormone testing to a whole new level. It provides a comprehensive view of how hormones function in your body, delivering a nuanced understanding of your health. Here’s what the DUTCH Test analyzes:

Sex Hormones and Their Metabolites:

Evaluates levels of hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, along with their metabolites, to provide a detailed picture of hormone balance.

Cortisol Patterns

Measures your daily cortisol rhythm (diurnal pattern) and assesses total cortisol metabolite levels to identify stress-related hormone imbalances.

Organic Acids (OATs):

Offers insights into additional health areas, such as:

  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Oxidative stress
  • Gut dysbiosis
  • Melatonin production
  • Neuroinflammation

These comprehensive insights allow healthcare providers to identify underlying issues and create personalized treatment plans for improving overall wellness.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I messed up my collection, what now?

No worries! If the sample collection was not done correctly or doesn’t reflect the desired measurement scenario, you can request a new collection kit. These kits are free, and standard shipping costs are covered. Fees only apply for international or expedited next-day delivery. Simply contact customer service for assistance.

Patients can drink up to 40 ounces of fluids from the first-afternoon sample collection (approximately 5:00 PM) until the first-morning void sample the next day. If necessary, up to 48 ounces is allowed. After the morning sample, fluids may be consumed normally, but restrict intake to no more than 8 ounces in the two hours leading up to the dinnertime sample. Following the bedtime sample, fluids should again be limited to no more than 8 ounces. Ensuring the urine is yellow, but not dark yellow, is important for accurate results.

Excess fluid intake can dilute urine, potentially leading to inaccurate DUTCH Test results. To account for this, creatinine levels in urine are measured. If creatinine levels are too low, cortisol and other metabolites may appear falsely elevated. Results in such cases should be interpreted with caution.

Follow your usual routine. If caffeine is part of your normal day, continue as usual to avoid withdrawal effects, which may spike cortisol levels. If you aim to measure baseline cortisol levels unaffected by caffeine, avoid caffeine until after the second-morning urine collection.

Alcohol can disrupt sleep and influence cortisol and estrogen metabolism. For occasional drinkers, it’s best to avoid alcohol during the DUTCH Test to ensure results reflect typical patterns. If alcohol consumption is part of your daily routine, the test will reflect those conditions.

Frequent urination is manageable. As long as urine is held in the bladder for at least two hours before each sample, results should be accurate. If nighttime urination occurs, collect the urine in the provided “insomnia” strip. For multiple nighttime trips, collect all urine in a clean, refrigerated container, then dip the overnight strip into it the next morning.

Yes, it’s fine. The first-morning urine sample reflects overnight melatonin production, which peaks between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM. If you wake during the night, collect the sample at that time. The first-morning void will still provide accurate overnight hormone data.
