Need Help Losing Weight?
If you are like many people who struggle with excess weight, losing weight can be very challenging at times. There is a lot of information out there about fad diets and various methods to help you with your journey, but weight loss can be a lot more complex than simply cutting calories.
Many factors affect appetite and body weight
You are a unique individual, and the things that drive you to eat and gain weight are different than the person sitting next to you. Some things we can change. Other things that affect weight gain, we can’t change. Here are a few important factors that affect weight:
Genetics. Some things, like eye colour or height you get from your family. Well, the same can be said for weight. Did you know that there are a number of genes make us more vulnerable to weight gain? Outside influences. Social, environmental and cultural factors affect body weight as well. For example, family, ethnicity and socioeconomic status all play a role in determining our body weight. Behaviour. The way we eat each day and our understanding of nutrition play a big part in our weight gain or loss. As well, how much activity we get (or don’t), will also impact our weight. But did you know that things like our sleep patterns, and stress levels can also affect our ability to lose weight?
Since your body is burning fat for energy, your appetite will be smaller than normal, making it easier to maintain the strict diet we prescribe. While this diet is not safe for long-term use, it is able to safely reset your metabolic functions with short-term use. It will cause your body to shed up to 1-2 pounds each day and successfully reduce your weight in a short amount of time. Once your final results are visible, you can plan to maintain or enhance your ideal image with a long-term, sustainable diet and regular exercise.
How can prescription medication help?
Weight management medication typically works by suppressing appetite or by preventing the body from absorbing and/or storing energy in consumed food as body fat. Suppressing appetite can be helpful, especially if appealing foods stimulate one’s appetite even when hunger is absent.
Our nurse practitioner will meet with you in-person or virtually to discuss your medical history, your goals, current health status and your concerns to determine the best option for you.
Medication Prescriptions
There are times when diet/nutrition and exercise are not enough to lose those extra pounds. If that is your situation, prescription medication may be the answer for you.Utilizing the Health Canada Guidelines for weight loss, our Nurse Practitioner can prescribe a variety of medication including:
- Ozempic/Wegovy/Semaglutide
- Saxenda/Liraglutide

You will meet with our nurse practitioner to review your medical history, medications, allergies, goals of weight loss etc to determine if you are a good candidate for any of these medications. Blood work may be ordered for you, and referrals to various specialties may be involved. Follow up will be planned and support is provided!

Are There Any Side Effects?
There is always the possibility of side effects when a new medication is started. For this reason, a consultation with the nurse practitioner is required, as well as ongoing support.
